The White Party: Bob Sinclar

Duke Shin

Sure, it’s been a minute since Crobar was musically relevant in this city, but from time-to-time they do sneak in a surprise booking here or there to supplement their cheddar guest hosts (see: reality TV, Playmates) and dubious commercial remix/proggy-house lineups. House legend Erick Morillo and Dutch electro-rogue Jamie Fanatic recently dropped by, and tonight, another global superstar materializes to grace Crobar’s balcony DJ booth: French disco/house heavyweight Bob Sinclar. Breaking through with a Jane Fonda-sampling house gem alongside Thomas Bangalter, Sinclar (Christophe Le Friant) was already established as a dance heavyweight in his home country of France—his Yellow Productions label putting out sexy grooves by the likes of Kid Loco, DJ Cam and Dimitri from Paris since 1993. Over time, his discography would grow to include the popular Africanism projects, award-winning remixes and collaborations with the likes of Ian Pooley and Jamiroquai, and six albums, including 2006’s “Western Dream,” which included the feel-good dance-floor smash “World Hold On (Children of the Sky).” With a day off for Memorial Day, you can expect to dance all night to a rare set from the smooth disco-laced mind of a master. Oh, and wear your whites.

Headlining DJ Bob Sinclar joins Big Ali for the White Party, at Crobar, 1543 North Kingsbury, (312)266-1900, on May 25, 9pm-4am. $30.

Philipp Jung sits at a Swiss restaurant in Berlin and waits for his order during a rare two-day stretch at home between touring. Joining him at the table are some new friends from Iceland, where Jung and his partner-in-crime Patrick Bodmer recently holed up to start work on what will hopefully become their full-length album debut

The techno and left-field electronic-artist promoters at Meiotic have an appealing edge to their events, supplementing their minimal and micro-house lineups with retro-futuristic bookings that often connect the dots between current trends and past innovations (like past bookings Metro Area and Egyptian Lover)

It’s quite possible to envision the collapse of a specialnewband who had been honored/saddled with the tag of "Justice’s Favorite New Band" on Pitchfork—all before the Stateside release of its debut album. Luckily for us, the trio of young Aussies in Midnight Juggernauts appears poised to capitalize from endorsements tossed down from on high

Lorin Ashton, better known to the world as DJ/producer/remixer extraordinaire Bassnectar, is a road warrior. The love-him-or-hate-him cult favorite is on tour nearly 150 nights out of the year, bringing his bass-heavy amalgamation of party-breaks, hip-hop, high-energy showmanship and social consciousness across the country
